Noeline Kyle interviewed 12 women who were involved in Surf Life Saving Assocation ladies auxiliaries in the 1950s on the mid north coast of New South Wales. The women talked about their family background, schooling, relationships with their mothers, their work and of course the beach and the surf club...Noeline includes her own story too, as one of the women who discovered surf, sun and popular culture and some small measure of independence at the beach in socially conservative country towns.
